In honor of Europe Day, Austria's Foreign Minister, Sebastian Kurz, stated that the EU achieved to make the European continent, which was ravaged by a lot of wars in the past, a continent of peace.
Through a video message, he pointed out that for the EU youth, peace is something that is implied. He also talked about other significant achievments which have been reasonable and important, naming a few, like the freedom of travel and working in the Union.
He also said that the EU is faced with two big challenges, namely the migrant crisis and EU referendum in Britain.
"The migrant crisis must be put under control. The situation is now better than it was half a year ago, but that does not mean that we have solved it. The migrant crisis is not over yet and we are far from a solution", Kurz warned.
According to him, Europe must protect its own borders and it must decide on its own on who can enter and who cannot.
"Only an Europe without inner borders can have a future", Kurz explained.
"The other challenge is the referendum on the UK on June 22, which can change everything. I hope that Great Britain will remain in the EU, because the Union would become weaker without the UK, both financially and geo-politically. "
Kurz expressed that he hopes the UK will choose the right path.
At the end he said that it is very important to continually work on bettering and developing the EU.
