The institutions should serve the interests of all citizens, said EU Ambassador Aivo Orav in his address at the Thursday conference dubbed 'Day of Integrity-Prevention of Corruption and Conflicts of Interests in Local Government Units'.
"Your country is currently faced with a serious political crisis and crisis in terms of the rule of law," Orav noted, adding that the increased efforts in the fight against corruption on central and local level are key for the country's progress.
Unfortunately, he said, the recent pardoning decision of President Ivanov undermines these efforts.
"In relation to this, all state-run institutions should help the Special Prosecutor's Office do its job. However, the citizens of this country are rightfully expecting their enforcement bodies to implement justice and fight corruption. These institutions should not serve the interests of only a few, but everyone's," Orav scored.
The deputy to the German ambassador to Macedonia, Helge Sander, said a very important issue for all political parties in the country is creating an environment where the Special Prosecutor's Office could work undisturbedly.
"A comprehensive investigation into this is the real cornerstone for restoring trust, stability," Sander said, adding Germany is providing support for the work of the Special Prosecutor's Office.
