Following the report of the medical team on duty, the epidemiological service in the southern town of Gevgelija has identified one case of measles at the reception transit center there housing migrants.
The diagnosis was discovered in a 3-year-old girl from Afghanistan who has received appropriate medical treatment.
Epidemiologists and infectious diseases specialists have provided the medical team at the Gevgelija reception center with advice on further treatment and prevention from spreading the infectious illness.
During the inspection carried out on Wednesday, officials have concluded that the general hygiene at the reception center is maintained properly and that it stands at a satisfactory level. The area measuring 1,250 square meters was also disinfected.
Currently, there are around 100 migrants accommodated at the Gevgelija reception center, whereas another 153 wait outside the facility in a specially prepared tent. These are people who have managed to cross the border illegally and who are to be returned at the Idomeni makeshift camp in Greece after the Macedonian Interior Ministry checks their identity.
Some estimates say there are around 10,000 refugees still being accommodated at the Idomeni camp.
