A small number of migrants have arrived in Greece in April compared to the same month last year, after the EU-Turkey deal has entered into force, set to limit the migrant wave.
The total of 3,469 people arrived in Greece from Turkey in April, while that figure during the same period in 2015 stood at 13,556, the UN refugee agency (UNHCR) and the Greek refugee crisis management service said Tuesday.
Approximately 155,000 migrants and refugees have arrived in Greece since January this year. During the same period, the total of 183,017 migrants have reached European shores, most of whom arrived in Greece, or 154,661, followed by Italy - 27,265, Spain - 1,063 and Cyprus - 28.
Greek daily Kathimerini said no new migrant arrivals were registered in Greece as of Monday morning.
With the EU-Turkey agreement, the total of 7,044 migrants and refugees have remained on the Greek islands of Lesobs, Chios and Samos.
