According to reports from Syrian state media, at least three people have been killed and many more injured in a rebel rocket attack on a hospital in the city of Aleppo, Al-Jazeera reports.

The attack on Tuesday adds to a toll of more than 250 people killed in less than two weeks in both government- and rebel-held parts of the city.

Syria's Ikhbariya news said three women had been killed and 17 injured inside the hospital in the Muhafaza neighbourhood.

"[Dozens] martyred and wounded in rockets fired by terrorists at al-Dabit Hospital," a news flash carried on state TV said.

The army said rebels had launched a widespread attack on civilian areas and hitting the hospital.

It accused groups including al-Nusra Front, Ahrar al-Sham and Jaish al-Islam of being behind the attack.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also reported casualties in the attack, adding that the hospital had been heavily damaged.
