The Prilep residents are to start selecting the organic from the non organic waste, by dividing it in more than 3,000 containers, which will make this town one of the first urban areas in Macedonia where waste will be actively selected.
Komunalec public utility enterprise has began distributing special containers to the citizens of the town.
The containers are comprised of green and yellow ones - the green ones are to be used for organic waste and the yellow ones for plastic garbage and paper.
In these past two years, the public company has distributed more than 15,000 such containers, an investment worth MKD 15.6 million. Around 60% of the Prilep households already have these kinds of containers.
"The containers' distribution will be completed by the end of May, and by the end of the year we'll distribute 3,000 containers more," Komunalec said.
Prilep expects the factory for secondary waste selection to be built in near future, near the local landfill.
According to the head of the public utility company, Prilep is to become the unique town in Macedonia and the Balkan region to fully apply primary waste selection.
