Not that long ago, during the Easter holidays, people would buy for their closest and dearest ones something new - a piece of clothes, shoes, a present, but this day, a family from Veles got a splendid present - a new home, Telegraf.mk has learnt.
The house that was offered as a gift to the Davcevski family was erected by the 'We Build Future' NGO from Skopje. After they decided they will help the 6-member family, they managed to build them a new house. The Davcevskis were overjoyed for having received the best of presents - a home, and precisely during the Easter holidays.
"This is a great day for us, the feeling is sublime. We're happy, the sun has shone upon us. I'm grateful to all the humane people who returned us into our home, as the previous was burnt to the ground," Lence Davcevska said.
The family was left without a roof over their had when it lost its house in a fire in November 2014. For a year and a half they rented an apartment and manged by sleeping over with friends and family. At one point, the parents were threatened with authorities having to take away their children.
"We saved the Davcevski family whose four children were about to be taken to a foster home because they had nowhere to live for a year and a half. I want to express our gratitude to all those who took part in the construction of the house. There were construction workers from Kratovo, Skopje, Tetovo. They were involved in the building process together. Besides, there were athletes, singers, directors and officials who offered their selfish assistance,' said Ilija Jovanovic, head of the NGO.
'We Build Future' wishes the family's four underage children - Stefan, Sara, Ivona and Tina - to have carefree childhood and to grow with their parents.
The organization plans to help in the reconstruction of 50 houses across Macedonia belonging to socially vulnerable people, forgotten by society.
The Davcevski family now need home appliances, a washing machine, stove, vacuum cleaner... They hope more humane people will help. The only thing left to be done in near future is having their facade painted.
The first house built by the 'We Build Future' NGO is located in the village of Siricino near Tetovo, where the 5-member Ristovski family lives.
