The European Union's executive says its senior negotiators in the bailout talks with Greece are returning to Brussels, but the work on completing the negotiations is continuing, AP reported.
EU Commission spokeswoman Mina Andreeva says "important progress" has been made so far in the talks in Athens, which hit a severe snag on Tuesday over how to ensure that Greece implements future cutbacks if the need arises.
Andreeva said on Thursday the Commission will continue to work with the Greek government, other European institutions and the International Monetary Fund to finalize an overall agreement on the Greek reforms program.
The ongoing negotiations form the first review of how Greece has implemented the austerity measures agreed under the country's third bailout signed last year. Their successful completion would allow the start of talks on lightening Greece's crippling debt burden.
