Well renowned Macedonian director Milco Mancevski prepares to begin directing his fifth feature film in New York, where Mancevski also wrote the script.
Bikini will tell the story of a former woman marine. Condola Rashad stars as Bikini, a charismatic, restless former marine who returns from Iraq and unwittingly becomes the focus of a documentary film.
She attempts to reintegrate in society and gain custody over her small daughter, the director has informed. Rashad is best known for her role in the new legal drama Billions and for performing Romeo and Juliet with Orlando Bloom on Broadway.
"The film has New York's scent all over it, it will be filmed in locations in this city which is my second home and which I love dearly. We have an exceptional talented crew. I fought to have full creative liberty with this film, without producers or financiers or politicians getting involved. It will be a rare American film where the author has the right to make the final cut", Mancevski said.
The director is best known for his classic Before the Rain, a story of strife in Macedonia, which competed for the Academy Award for best foreign film. Mancevski went on to direct Dust, Shadows and Mothers. He also directed an episode of The Wire and worked on numerous other projects in the States.
