A former member of the (Kosovo Liberation Army) UCK guerrilla group, Bedri Curi, was found killed in Kosovo. Media speculate that Curi may have been preparing to testify at the expected trials of UCK commanders.
Under international pressure, Kosovo decided to set up a new court based in the Hague that will have mandate to put to trial UCK commanders suspected of war crimes. The Albanian nationalist movement that fought against the Serbs was largely untouched in the cases held in the original ICTY tribunal in the Hague. UCK commanders, which include current top political and opposition leaders, have been suspected of torturing prisoners, ordering killings of civilians and even organ harvesting.
