A promotion of 38 titles on Wednesday wrapped up the "Stars of World Literature" edition, under which a total of 560 best books on the history of human race have been translated into Macedonian language for the last four years.
The National and University Library 'St. Clement of Ohrid', several publishing houses and about 500 translators, lectors, led by editor-in-chief Mitko Mandzukov took part in the realization of this large project.
I wish for these 560 books, which today are inseparable part of Macedonia's literary treasury, to enable readers to touch the stars, discover new horizons, learn more about themselves and others, Culture Minister Elizabeta Kanceska-Milevska said at the promoting ceremony.
The project, launched four years, has been successfully completed, leader of ruling VMRO-DPMNE Nikola Gruevski told reporters.
Over 500 people contributed to the realization of this, most probably the largest literary project in the history of independent Macedonia, Gruveski said.
I am honored that I was part of this government, which substantially supported the culture by publishing for the first time the gems of the world literature, he added.
This edition is a pioneering endeavor of enormous cultural significance, as it also affirms the capacity of the Macedonian literary language, Mandzukov said.
"The language is probably the most significant quality of one nation, while its literary articulation the most obvious proof of its maturity. Literary languages in addition to original works are also being recognized by the ability the most complex books in terms of linguistics to be translated in them. This task is now completed and nobody could never again consider the possibility to deny the Macedonian language and consequently the nation that speaks it," Mandzukov said.
