After negotiations in Vienna failed due to Zoran Zaev's announcement that he will not be attending them, the European Union is still pondering what steps are to be taken in the future. There are couple of options, to make another attempt and to schedule a meeting on neutral grounds, or for Commissioner Hahn to come to Skopje.
Whichever option is chosen, the EU still hopes that the Przino Agreement can be salvaged so that another agreement needn't be realized.
Straight after the meeting's cancellation, spokesperson of Commissioner Hahn, Maja Kocijancic stated that the EU regrets the cancellation but failed to declare which one of the leaders refused to attend the meeting.
In order to attend, Zaev put forth a few conditions, which were: revoking the decision for holding elections on June 5, as well as annulling President Ivanov's abolition decision.
In a joint statement by Commissioner Johannes Hahn, Richard Howitt, Ivo Vajgl, and Eduard Kukan, it was said that they remain firmly dedicated to helping Macedonia and at the service of the parties.
"Still, we must point out that the responsibility for accomplishing democratic progress and advancement in the country's Euro-Atlantic path depends on the parties themselves. It is their turn now to define the path that leads forward", the report stated.
The Przino Agreement, from June and July, was realized with mediation from Commissioner Hahn, and it was signed by the leaders of the biggest political parties in Macedonia.
