‘Saint Amour’ Film to Open 19th Skopje Film Festival

­ A total of 77 films, workshops and masterclasses will feature the 19th edition of Skopje Film Festival. The festival will open Friday evening at Millennium cinema with ‘Saint Amour’ film, which also opened Berlin International Film Festival.

‘Saint Amour’ is a 2016 French-­Belgian comedy­-drama film directed by Benoît Delépine and Gustave de Kervern. And the cast includes Gérard Depardieu, Benoît Poelvoorde, Céline Sallette, Vincent Lacoste, Chiara Mastroianni, Ana Girardot.

The festival which will run through April 30 will offer several films that will be screened in the cinemas Millennium, Frosina and Cinematheque. Festival includes programs – Gala Program, Author’s Film, Panorama of World Cinema, Focus on French Cinema, Focus on Taiwan Cinema, Retrospective, Short Film Program, Retrospective on Pedro Almodovar and Macedonian Production.

The Gala Program will include ‘Son of Saul’ (2015) Hungarian drama film directed by László Nemes. The film won the Oscar for best foreign language film at the Oscars in February; the Oscar winning director Michael Moore’s ‘Where to Invade Next’ film; ‘My King’ film awarded at the Cannes Film Festival, new film by Italian filmmaker Marco Bellocchio ‘Blood of My Blood’ and ‘Lazar’ film by Macedonian director Svetozar Ristovski.

Author’s Film program will feature ‘Ryuzo and the Seven Henchmen’ film by Takeshi Kitano, ‘Free Fall’ by Gyorgy Palfi,’ ‘Men and Chicken’ by Anders Thomas Jensen.

Tod Haynes’s ‘Carol’ featuring Cate Blanchett, ‘Suffragette’ film with Meryl Strip playing the lead role and the French film ‘My King’ starring Vincent Cassel and Emmanuel Bercot are part of Panorama of World Cinema program.

Workshop about film music with Igor Vasilev Novogradska will be held in Frosina cinema on April 28. The lecture will focus on the language of film music, the communication between the musical forms and dramatic action, as well as the musical­-rhythmic forms with the dynamic of the story and film editing.

A masterclass/workshop on experimental film with Carl Abrahamsson will also be held.

The first Media Day Info Day will be held within festival’s program which aims at giving support to Macedonian film professionals on preparation of application for Creative Europe's MEDIA sub-program. A debate and screening of 'Vita Activa: The Spirit of Hannah Arendt' film will be held in cooperation with Kontra Kadar debate cinema.
