MANU Marks 80 of Birth of Academician and Art Historian Cvetan Grozdanov

Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts (MANU) held a ceremony on Wednesday to mark 80 years since the birth of the academician Cvetan Grozdanov.

MANU president Taki Fiti noted that Cvetan Grozdanov is our most eminent art historian, Byzantologist with European and worldwide reputation, and a top scientist. His work brought prestige and reputation of the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts on the whole.

The work of the academician Cvetan Grozdanov is impressive, magnificent, as according to time period of research and according to the astonishing scientific creation, and especially to his scientific scruples and internationally recognized originality, Fiti said.

His scientific work includes centuries­-long chronology extending from old Slavic culture and art through late Middle Ages and the 19th century renaissance era, until present day. Grozdanov’s bibliography includes over 300 scientific papers, quality books and monographs.

He reminded that MANU began the realization of project “Selected Works by academician Cvetan Grozdanov” which will be consisted of 10 volumes, the first several of which have been already published and promoted.

The academician Georgi Stardelov addressing the ceremony referred to Grozdanov’s nine voluminous monographs said that his works on history of our medieval art and culture are not only history but also represent history of our spiritual life in our region. Within jubilee ceremony, first issue of “Monumenta” magazine by the MANU’s Research Centre of Cultural Heritage was launched.

Professor Elica Maneva promoting the new edition said that Cvetan Grozdanov initiated the idea for publishing of this magazine, who is also its editor-­in-­chief. The event, which also included screening of film by Macedonian Radio Television “Among Icons and Frescoes” filmed on Grozdanov’s 80th birth anniversary, was attended by Head of Macedonian Orthodox Church HH Stefan, academicians, university professors, writers and other distinguished guests.
